"The city of Jesi as my temporary home: A look at everyday life as a volunteer".

As an 18-year-old European volunteer in Jesi, Italy, my experience is proving to be truly transformative. During my time in this charming city, I have already had the opportunity to immerse myself in a different culture, meet wonderful people and contribute to the well-being of the local community. Throughout my 22-day experience, Jesi has become my temporary home, a place I will always hold close to my heart.

From the very first moment I have felt welcomed by the local people and by my ESC partner and flatmate Simona with whom I share this experience. The warmth and hospitality of the people of Jesi makes me feel part of the community from day one. My volunteer project focuses on working with young people and people from all walks of life, which allows me to interact with people from different generations and cultural backgrounds.

One of the things that struck me the most was the historical and architectural beauty of Jesi. The city is full of charming squares, cobblestone streets and ancient buildings that tell the rich history of the Marche region. During my free time, I sometimes explore the historical sites and visit the museums, which has given me a deeper insight into life in Italy.

The local gastronomy is also something I will never forget. The flavours of Italian cuisine, from pastas and pizzas to delicious desserts (such as the 4-flavour gelato with cream), make my experience in Jesi even more enriching and exquisite. Sharing meals with the locals was a way to connect more deeply with the Italian culture.

The day-to-day life as a volunteer in Jesi is a balance between work and free time. During the day, I dedicate myself to my volunteer project. And in the evening I sometimes go for a walk to explore places I haven't been to yet.

In addition to the impact I hope to have as a volunteer in the community, this experience is giving me valuable personal and professional skills. I am learning to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment, to work in a team and to face challenges with a positive, problem-solving mindset.

The city and its people are leaving a lasting impression on me that I don't think I will easily forget.

Our favorites in Jesi

Something that surprised us about Jesi is that regardless of being a small place it's certainly alive. Most of what you may be looking for is present in Jesi. In this post, we will present some of our favorite places. The Library/ Signoria Palace ( Google Maps ) One of the best ways for you to get involved when you arrive somewhere new is by visiting the library- in our opinion, it usually corresponds well to what the city is. In this case, it is small, organized, with some diversity of genres, a very small selection of foreign language books, and packed. The  same words can be used to describe Jesi. Neither way don't forget to get the password for the wi-fi at the tourism office if you plan on doing some work. Gara  ( Google Maps ) If you love coffee you will certainly love Gara. Even tho their pastries may be a little overpriced coming from a bigger city like Lisbon it is surprising having such a great cappuccino for just 1,50€. The staff is super gentle and the atmosphere ...

April 2024 highlights

🌟 Reflecting on April 🌟 April was our first month here at Caritas Jesi it was an incredible month. Here are some of the highlights that made it truly memorable: Day trip to Loreto We started our journey in Loreto with servizio civile meeting where we integrated with other young people. Later we discovered the city starting with Basilica of the Holy House. It is basically the central attraction. It’s believed that is the house where the Virgin Mary lived and where the Annunciation took place. We also explored the charming streets, local shops, and traditional Italian cafes. The town offers a serene atmosphere with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the Adriatic Sea. We liked the vibes. Palestinian Dinner Caritas organized a fundraising dinner for Palestine. We were invited to help the staff preparations before the start of the dinner. All the food was traditional Palestinian food made by Italian-Palestinian women.  During the dinner, people expressed their solidari...

Sports in jesi

πŸƒπŸŽΎπŸ€πŸ†πŸ‚πŸŠπŸ  SPORTS IN JESI In Italy, if you want to join a sport or a gym, you have to get a medical certificate. For this medical certificate you have to get a health card, which costs money, and then take the medical exam with a doctor, and this also costs money (around 50 euros). And this medical certificate lasts only one year. Unfortunately, in all of Jessi's gyms they will ask you for a certificate to register. But on this post I am going to attach a couple of sports classes which do not require this certificate. Sca TNT - Common autonomous space It is a building where you can find different activities. It has a market where they sell fresh and natural products. It also has a bar, and it is where you will find the cheapest drinks in the city, and sometimes they have events with live music, it has a very good atmosphere. Important, they only accept cash! Of course, they also teach sports lessons. In the building you can see the classes and schedules. Ri...
