Volunteer Oct24. 3 months so far!

Ciao, Hola and Hi!

I’m RΓo Rojas Mayorga and it's been 3 months since I'm an ESC volunteer here in Caritas Jesina. Let me update you briefly about my experience!

The arrival and first week in Caritas was a mix of emotions between the excitement to start and the confusion of all the new people and information we were bombarded with.

At first we didn't have a schedule and it was a little bit messy but I’m glad I got to share a lot of time with my partner on the project and it was nice to have someone in the same situation.

First month

Then when we had the schedule fixed it was time to habituate not just to the work but to the people we shared this time with. As all the services are done with local people, at first it was difficult the communication as I came with no words in Italian, but I was gladly surprised to find out my will of talking and sharing was lovely appreciated and corresponded, I found out the language barrier was a challenge but i wasn’t fighting it alone.

My birthday arrived eventually and i was here afraid to be alone in this special date, but actually that morning they prepared for me a cake and a table to cheer, i was so happy to see myself surrounded of people celebrating with me just after some weeks we had together on the centre.

Second month

Services were going great, I knew all the recurrent people, as a small organization sure we are here all like a big family, I felt confident and part of the Caritas centre.

The big highlight of this month was this realization at the volunteers dinner, I helped in the kitchen and then to plate up. It sure was such a great night going around serving and joking with everybody.

Every morning it’s such a great start of the day to walk around saluting everyone I encounter.

I have not traveled as much as i imagined before starting, not because I can’t, it’s just that i love Jesi. But instead of exploring Italy I do go around the region (Ancona, Fano, Falconara, Loreto, etc.) it’s so convenient to have free weekends.

Third month

I'm giving my best learning Italian and trying to help as much as I can. I feel that this proactivity is the main reason why I've been included in more activities. I enjoy my regular services, but helping in new areas of Caritas has taught me interesting things that boost my experience.

Our favorites in Jesi

Something that surprised us about Jesi is that regardless of being a small place it's certainly alive. Most of what you may be looking for is present in Jesi. In this post, we will present some of our favorite places. The Library/ Signoria Palace ( Google Maps ) One of the best ways for you to get involved when you arrive somewhere new is by visiting the library- in our opinion, it usually corresponds well to what the city is. In this case, it is small, organized, with some diversity of genres, a very small selection of foreign language books, and packed. The  same words can be used to describe Jesi. Neither way don't forget to get the password for the wi-fi at the tourism office if you plan on doing some work. Gara  ( Google Maps ) If you love coffee you will certainly love Gara. Even tho their pastries may be a little overpriced coming from a bigger city like Lisbon it is surprising having such a great cappuccino for just 1,50€. The staff is super gentle and the atmosphere ...

April 2024 highlights

🌟 Reflecting on April 🌟 April was our first month here at Caritas Jesi it was an incredible month. Here are some of the highlights that made it truly memorable: Day trip to Loreto We started our journey in Loreto with servizio civile meeting where we integrated with other young people. Later we discovered the city starting with Basilica of the Holy House. It is basically the central attraction. It’s believed that is the house where the Virgin Mary lived and where the Annunciation took place. We also explored the charming streets, local shops, and traditional Italian cafes. The town offers a serene atmosphere with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the Adriatic Sea. We liked the vibes. Palestinian Dinner Caritas organized a fundraising dinner for Palestine. We were invited to help the staff preparations before the start of the dinner. All the food was traditional Palestinian food made by Italian-Palestinian women.  During the dinner, people expressed their solidari...

Sports in jesi

πŸƒπŸŽΎπŸ€πŸ†πŸ‚πŸŠπŸ  SPORTS IN JESI In Italy, if you want to join a sport or a gym, you have to get a medical certificate. For this medical certificate you have to get a health card, which costs money, and then take the medical exam with a doctor, and this also costs money (around 50 euros). And this medical certificate lasts only one year. Unfortunately, in all of Jessi's gyms they will ask you for a certificate to register. But on this post I am going to attach a couple of sports classes which do not require this certificate. Sca TNT - Common autonomous space It is a building where you can find different activities. It has a market where they sell fresh and natural products. It also has a bar, and it is where you will find the cheapest drinks in the city, and sometimes they have events with live music, it has a very good atmosphere. Important, they only accept cash! Of course, they also teach sports lessons. In the building you can see the classes and schedules. Ri...
